Types of Swimming Styles
If you are able and smoothly doing basic swimming techniques, it is time to learn about various swimming styles. There are four types of swimming styles, freestyle, frog style, backstroke, and butterfly style.
Freestyle swimming
One of the most used swimming styles is freestyle. This style is an easy style and can be quickly learned. So, if you want to be able to swim fast, first the style that must be learned is freestyle.
Body position when freestyle swimming is to attach the front of the body above the water surface. So the front of the body faces down and the body stays on the surface of the water. The body is positioned straight upright, hands are moved pedaling forward and the feet are moving like they are kicking water.
Frog Style Pool
As the name suggests, frog-style swimming is one style of swimming whose movements resemble a frog swimming. Frog style is slower if it is matched with freestyle, but this style is more relaxed and very suitable to do when you want to swim casually.
The initial position of the frog-style swimming is like freestyle, the difference lies in the movement of the hands, feet, and when we take a breath. Hands and feet are moved like frog legs when swimming.
Backstroke Swimming
Unlike the previous swimming style, backstroke swimming is arguably a unique style. When we do a backstroke swim, the body that is usually facing down this time faces up.
The movement of the back style is similar to when we do freestyle swimming. The difference is only the position of the body facing upwards and the movement of the hands and feet which is the opposite of the freestyle.
There is something you need to pay attention to when doing a backstroke swimming. When doing this style, you will not be able to see ahead, so be careful with the wall at the edge of the pool, huh.
Butterfly Swimming
This butterfly style pool is also called a dolphin style pool. Butterfly style swimming is the development of swimming breaststroke. Swimming in this style is the most difficult style and if you are able to do a butterfly style, swimmers are usually able to do the three styles above.
Naming this style also takes from the movement when we do it. Called butterfly style or dolphin style because of foot movements that resemble dolphins, and hands move like butterflies that flap their wings.
