Ex-Secretary General of the UEFA officially won the Presidential election in the FIFA Extraordinary Congress in Zurich on Friday (26/02/2016) local time. Swiss-Italian-blooded man is getting 115 votes or 27 votes more than Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim al-Khalifa in the second round of elections. In the first round, Infantino scooped 88 votes, Sheikh Salman 85 votes, Prince Ali 27 votes, and Jerome Champagne 7 vote.
In his victory speech, vowed Infantino will restore and respect the image of FIFA. Because, in mid 2015, FIFA hit by a corruption scandal that dragged two figures, namely the renowned Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini.
Both were charged with no corresponding action procedure of selling the broadcasting rights to the World Cup in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) in 2005. Both were sentenced to eight years of prohibited activities in the world of football as well as a fine of 50 thousand Swiss francs (Blatter) and 80 thousand Swiss francs (Platini ).
"I am delighted Gianni Infantino president. He is from the Valais region, like me. I once drank wine with him last Christmas and giving advice," said Blatter told ZDF.
"I congratulate Gianni Infantino with an honest and warm relevant as the new president. The promise of reforming the organization will mean high demands of him, because the implementation of the new structure will be a great challenge. However, I believe the successor I am ready to answer them," added the man Swiss.
"With the experience, expertise, strategy and the ability of diplomacy, Gianni has all the qualities to continue my work. I hope he is given good luck and success," he added.
